State Representative James E. Vallee, House Chairman of the Committee on Veterans and Federal AffairsRepresentative James E. Vallee, a life-long Franklin resident, serves the people of the 10th Norfolk district in the Massachusetts Legislature. He was recently sworn in to an eighth term and serves as the House Chairman of the Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs. During the last legislative session, he was a leading member of the conference committee on ethics reform. In that role, Rep. Vallee was a stalwart advocate for sweeping changes to our state's laws on public officials' ethics and campaign finance laws-historic changes that were signed into law in late 2009-and for which he was awarded the 2010 Legislative Achievement Award from good-government advocates, Common Cause. As former chairman of the Committee on Criminal Justice, Rep. Vallee successfully worked to pass stricter drunk driving laws and penalties for sex offenders. For this work, Rep. Vallee was named the Legislator of the Year by Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and more recently, was honored by victim advocacy group Community VOICES with the Spirit of Compassion Award for his continued commitment to protecting children and victims. In addition to serving his constituents in the House of Representatives, Rep. Vallee serves our nation in the Massachusetts National Guard as a Lieutenant Colonel and as the Deputy Director J 5/7, charged with the mission to develop, promulgate, and coordinate strategic policy, plans, initiatives, and concepts related to war-fighting, transformation, and involvement in theater security cooperation, federal and state homeland security, interagency, intergovernmental, and multinational coordination, and civil-support missions. Rep. Vallee is also a former JAG Officer and Infantry Officer, having previously served with the 181st Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division (Light), and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. |

He is the recipient of several U.S. Army awards, including the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army
Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, and the Army Achievement
Medal. The National Conference of State Legislatures also awarded Rep. Vallee the Medal of Civic Honor for his
efforts to combat global terrorism through Operation Enduring Freedom.
In his role as an Army Lieutenant Colonel, Rep. Vallee took part in the 2010 Massachusetts National Guard Leadership Seminar and was named a National Security Fellow by the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. Rep. Vallee, a graduate of Franklin public schools, Providence College, and New England School of Law, began his legal career as a volunteer prosecutor with the Norfolk County District Attorney's office and is now a partner in the Franklin-based law firm of Cornetta, Ficco, Simmler & Vallee, where he concentrates his practice in real estate law and land use. He has rooted his own family in Franklin, where he lives with his wife Nadira and their two daughters, Lucy and Beatrice. |
